WaitBuddy was a FREE mobile app that allowed users to receive a virtual waitlist ticket by checking-in at any supported location that had a wait. Users were not required to give their phone number, or even provide their names which helped reduce friction and facilitate user adoption. The idea was to allow users to go for a walk, do some shopping, or grab a cup of coffee while WaitBuddy kept them updated on their estimated remaining wait, and allowing them to stay in touch with the host throughout the process. WaitBuddy initially worked at restaurants, banks, car washes, auto service shops, government offices and any other supported business that had a wait, however, a few well-funded startups (cue Open Table and No Wait) proved to be too powerful to compete with by a self-funded entrepreneurship.
